TYPEFACES / 2023 / SWEET LILY

A year ago, I saw the water lilies disappear. I spent three months in almost complete silence. Every day, I went to the lake nearby. Every day, I sat on a large rock, to look over the water, to visit the water lilies. They seemed to be in a constant state of drowning while simultaneously floating in specks of sunlight. Fragile, translucent, poisonous. Water lilies live in spring and summer. During fall, they disappear. Day by day, I saw the flowers lose their brightness, fading into nothingness. I saw the leaves wilt and disappear. I witnessed the lake becoming clearer and clearer. One night the ice took over. All lilies were gone. It's September now, and water lily season is over. It’s September now, and I wonder if they will ever come back. Maybe I'll see them again in March.

Sweet Lily is a variable font with one axis and two styles, ranging from March to September. The construction of the letters is based on Tonka, hence both typefaces pair well.
